West Dean Prize Winner

20 July 2021

On 20th July 2021, the Clockmakers' Charity awarded its annual £500 prize for Excellence in Studies to a West Dean College student.

The presentation of the prize took place by Zoom with members of the Charity Committee and representatives from West Dean College. They were joined by the student, Mr Youra Turceninoff, who spoke engagingly about his studies to date, sharing one of his coursework pieces, the unusual movement of which had been inspired by a piece seen on a trip to Le Locle in Switzerland.

West Dean said of Youra:

'Youra has been an exceptional student throughout his 2 years of study with us with the quality of the work produced and the approach taken when working on historic clocks being exemplary. In spite of the challenges of the last year, including Youra having to commute daily to college, he has always been focused on continuous learning through all aspects of his study, being willing to contribute and share with the student group. His projects have been challenging and varied with a very high standard of both practical work and research. We are confident that Youra will continue to flourish and make a positive contribution to the wider horological community.'
