Master's Outing July 2023

08 July 2023

On Saturday July 8th the Master, Consort and 30 Company members plus a few friends were the guests of Jack Henley (Past Master Carmen and clock enthusiast) at his home in Kent.

Jack has an amazing collection of just about anything you can think of from Post Boxes to classic cars, musical Toby Jugs and novelties to Juke Boxes, pens to music boxes and all kinds of clocks. All set in a wonderful family home with superb gardens including a working tower clock, and with everything in full working order.

The group was divided into three with Jack taking personal charge of those visiting the Coach House (Cars, Turret Clocks, Juke Boxes, musical boxes and a Fairground Organ), while Ron Rose and Duncan Greig gave a detailed and fascinating tour of the clocks in the house including examples of the best makers. Richard the gardener scooped up the remaining visitors while Aiden kept a polite eye on us all!

Meanwhile the Master and her chief assistant Maggie Lamb set out a tempting buffet in the Coach House to which the visitors repaired at 1pm when quantities of food and wine (plus soft drinks) were consumed. In the afternoon the groups again set off to visit anything they had missed.

Altogether a wonderful day and an amazingly privileged insight into the collecting enthusiasm of one man.

At the end of lunch the Master thanked Jack for his hospitality, and Past Master Howard Newman thanked the Master for organising such an interesting and all-embracing day out.
