On 8th of July 2021, The Master presented the Clockmakers' £500 prize for the highest scoring student on the BA Horology course at Birmingham City University to Iolanda Clopotel.

Iolanda writes:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Iolanda Clopotel and I am currently finishing my degree in Horology. Tinkering and making small things work brought me satisfaction and joy from a young age and working closely with all aspects of this field, from watch servicing to clock making and learning how to use a lathe, made me realise that I’ve found a passion for all timekeepers and the mechanisms behind them. This was a peculiar year for finishing the degree, but it did allow me to explore more in terms of computer aided design and it helped in bringing my project to life, ticking happily in the virtual environment and on it’s way to completion in the real world.

I was lucky enough to achieve the highest marks in my year group and I would like to thank The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers for supporting and rewarding young watchmakers and clockmakers which keep this trade alive and brimming with curiosity and opportunity for new developments. I feel grateful for being given such an Award and it will be of immense help in continuing my development as a horologist as there will always be a need of new tools and equipment in every workshop, no matter its size.
