Inter-Livery Pancake Races

Each Shrove Tuesday, to the consternation and delight of tourists, City workers and Liverymen alike, the Guildhall Yard is taken over by the most serious of competitions, the Inter-Livery Pancakes Races, raising funds for the Lord Mayor's Appeal.

A founder member of the races, the Clockmakers are able to enter a full team of racers, and the Clerk serves as Chief Timekeeper to the event.

This year's team did the Company proud. Assistant Clerk Kerry narrowly missed out on victory in the Ladies' final, to come in as the second fastest woman in the City. In the Novelty category, Alastair Chandler also made it to the final. Congratulations and thanks are also due to the Master Jane Pedler and Steward Joseph Wood-Heath, for their willingness to take part in what can only be described as a heated competition; two competing Masters were lucky to escape serious injury, having crashed over the finishing line and mid final stretch.

The competition is followed by a pancake lunch.

Though no prize was up for grabs, the Clockmakers in attendance are certainly to be commended also. Their cheering was by far the loudest of all the assembled companies, spurring our team on.
