Dingwall-Beloe 2022

17 November 2022

The 2022 Dingwall-Beloe Horological Lecture was held on Thursday 17 November at the British Museum. This year's lecture was given by Dr Peter de Clercq and titled: 'Travel journals and the history of horology'. The Master Dr James Nye commented to the Clockmaker about the great success of the lecture.

'It is always heartening to see such strong support for the Dingwall Beloe lecture, with people travelling long distances to attend, renewing and reinforcing friendships across our world. It was especially gratifying this year to see so many students present. Our lecturer, Peter de Clercq, is held in high regard as the editor of Antiquarian Horology, assisting authors to present their research, but we only too rarely hear him from him directly, and this was a marvellous occasion on which to listen to his measured thoughts on the colourful history of travellers across several centuries, and their record of horological curiosities along the way. There was a tremendous atmosphere around the whole occasion, and our thanks go to our colleagues at the British Museum for significant work in staging the event as ever, and also to Bonhams for their valuable support in keeping the machine well-oiled'.
