Prayers and Grace

Clockmakers’ Prayers

The first listed is the one we usually use:-

O Lord God, whose Dwelling is in the Eternal City, vouchsafe to protect the earthly cities, towns and villages in which we dwell. And herein we pray Thee to bless and prosper all ancient Guilds and Companies founded of old time in our City of London for the prosperity of its trade and spiritual and temporal well-being of its citizens. Especially at this time we ask Thy blessing on the Company of Clockmakers, the Master, the Wardens and all the members of the Court, Livery and Freedom. Endue thy servants with those gifts, which shall fit them for the due discharge of their duties, and make them to be faithful in all things, to Thy honour and glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

O Blessed Saviour, who wast pleased Thyself to be numbered among the craftsmen: We pray Thee to guide and prosper all who labour with mind and hand, especially those employed in the Horological industry, that their work may be done to Thy honour and rewarded with Thy approval, who livest and reignest with the Father and Holy Spirit, world without end.
Amen

O Lord who didst bind Thy disciples to Thyself in a strong fellowship of love and service. We pray Thee to bless all who form The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. We thank Thee for all those whose integrity, diligence and skill have created the fine traditions which we today have inherited, and we pray that we might be found worthy successors, through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Amen

and for HMS Protector:-

O Eternal Lord God, who alone spreadest out the heavens and rulest the ragings of the sea: be pleased to receive into Thy protection all those who go down to the sea in ships and occupy their business in great waters. Make Thou their voyages safe to their persons and their fellowship strong, especially we ask this for the Company of Her Majesty’s Survey Ship Protector and be Thyself their way and light till journeys shall end; through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Amen

The Clockmaker’s Grace

For good food and good fellowship
God’s Holy name be praised
And may He preserve the Church and Queen
And ever prosper the Art and Mystery of Clockmaking
Amen

HMS Protector

HMS Protector - with whom WCC is affiliated - sailed from Portsmouth on 28th November 2011 and is now on her way to Antarctica. Past Master Cdr Peter Linstead-Smith OBE RN and the Deputy Master, Howard Newman FBHI, visited HMS Protector on the 21st November to wish the Captain and the crew well and presented a bulkhead clock, to keep time in the Wardroom, as a gesture of goodwill from WCC. more » Ross Watton & Naval Broadsides)
